The pile of post-it notes
The Power of Documenting Thoughts and Transforming Ideas into Reality
Up until the time of writing this newsletter edition, I can't say that I have the trait of being an organized person. Instead, I carry out these focused days (booked in my calendar for my capsule wardrobe) where I shuffle my wardrobe, desk, books, papers to keep track of what I have and what I don't want to keep, to stay focused.
I wouldn't label myself as a minimalist as well, but more of mindful of my possessions and keeping things neat can help minimize time waste and distractions.
Today, I stumbled upon a pile of post-it notes I had collected but hadn't thrown away. It evoked some pleasant memories and prompted self-reflection since 2019. It was a period of transition and perhaps some burnout that enabled me to redirect my career focus. My interests shifted from a job that I truly loved and still take pride in, towards a deeper curiosity about the world of work, organizational change, career coaching, and other relevant areas that are now shaped-up as my self-branding notions and generated business ventures.
The notes contain ideas I had intended to share on my social media platforms, which I had envisioned to grow significantly but also was lazy about mostly for usually being in demanding professional roles. However, LinkedIn even with and inconsistency has been my platform to share my thoughts and grew significantly in terms of followers and diversified opportunities!
Going back to this pile of post-it notes, oh, how much it can be useful to this newsletter I launched in 2023, and even to other kinds of discussions. It can unfold amazingly with new insights for my consultancy services in organizational performance and team leadership.
Can you see how much better it is not to keep our thoughts in our brains only?
Do you write what pops up into your head?
If yes, how do you document? What do you use?
If not, how do you apply your thoughts into reality? Is there a certain intangible tool you persevere in? I'm genuinely curious to know :)
I enjoyed reading this a lot. I changed my relationship to post-its to be very temporary so I use them for a one-week reminder like my weekly goals, and some post-its are stuck on my screen and I change them every month or so becasue I stop reading them in while. I don't use them any more for recording ideas as they could pile up very easily and become a clutter pain. I write my thoughts on my notebook which I review frequently, usually part of my weekly review process.
